On Saturday, September 8th, - on the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa was presented to the Hungarians. Imre Teglasy, the head of the Hungarian pro-life movement "Alfa," belonging to the Human Life International organization, had arrived.
He was very excited and fully prepared to transport Our Lady's Icon across his country, which is the homeland of St. Paul, the Hermit. St. Paul the Hermit is the founder of the Order of the Pauline Fathers, who are the custodians of the Icon of Czestochowa.
Slovakians, Hungarians and Poles gathered around the "Life Mobile," since in the morning, Lech Kowalewski and his son arrived from Poland to replace the chassis of the "Shrine on wheels." By then, the repair was already crucial, because the great weight of the glass and the entire construction was causing too much pressure on the wheels and creating problems on uneven roads. As a result, the breaks were damaged and two wheels had already been broken. After discussing the problem, it was decided to place the shrine construction not on two, but on four wheels. Of course, this required a new construction to be built and transporting it to the Slovak-Hungarian border, where the whole undercarriage of the "Life Mobile" was replaced.
Imre Teglasy was educated on how to use the shrine on wheels and how to care for it during transport, and afterwards he replaced the Slovak flag on the Life Mobile with a Hungarian one.
The visit with the Hungarians began!
The first location of visitation was a small village on the Hungarian side of the border, named Olaszliszka. This is the region known for the best Hungarian wine, under the name of Tokaj, throughout the centuries also called the Wine of the Kings. It became late in the day, so Imre had to drive fast along a definitively bad road with a surface narrow and full of potholes surface. It could have been a scene from a "Formula 1"- style ride. Due to this poor road, new problems with another wheel and the breaks have resurfaced. The coordinators of the Slovakian pro-life movement, Marcela and Peter Dobešov, as well as the Poles escorted him.
The first place of Our Lady's visitation in Hungary was a Catholic church. In front of the church, the priest and many lay people awaited Our Lady, but right after the Mass was ended, the Icon was processionally transferred to the Greek-Catholic church. After the service the Icon travelled to the next place, the city of Debrecen.
Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary and was called the "Rome of the Calvinists" for many centuries, since most of its residents are Protestants. Nevertheless, the organizers of the peregrination joyfully circled the entire city square with the Icon, clearly visible at night, in the illuminated "Life Mobile." The place of the Icon's visit was the parish of St. Ladislaus (hung. Lašlo), run by the Dominicans. The evening Mass was especially solemn, and the gathered faithful were very glad despite the late evening hour, that Our Blessed Mother came to them on her own birthday. Our Lady was venerated all night long. The next day, early in the morning Holy Mass was celebrated in the Greek-Catholic rite.
