Our Blessed Mother in the Czestochowa Icon arrived in Munich on the first day of the pilgrimage through Germany (October 24) and initially visited the church of St. Joseph, belonging to the Polish Mission. The visit schedule for the German region was so full that the Polish faithful did not receive the Icon until 11:00 pm.
Despite of such late hour, the awaiting crowd was quite large. Already at 10:30 pm, they began a devotional prayer of expectation. During that time, Our Blessed Mother was on Her way from Konstanz to Munich.
The "Life Mobile" with the Czestochowa Icon drove up at the church of St. Joseph with a small delay at 11:15 pm. The Icon was delivered by the leaders of the German pro-life organization "Helpers of God's Precious Children" (Helfer für Gottes kostbare Kinde), who are travelling through Germany together with Our Lady.
After a solemn playing of the Jasna Gora fanfare, the Rev. Dr. Stanisław Pławecki CSsR – the pastor of St. Joseph parish – carried Our Lady in a procession into the church, assisted by five priests, a large group of altar servers, and groups of parishioners in their folk costumes. The solemnity was adorned with the singing of the parish choir, directed by Mr. Józef Obuchowski. About 600 people gathered in the church.
The intention of the peregrination "From Ocean to Ocean" of Our Blessed Mother in the Icon of Czestochowa in defense of life was emphasized during the homily given by Fr. Tomasz Sadowski CSsR. He referred to the responsibility that each one of us has to protect the life of the conceived children in their mothers' wombs. A number of the gathered faithful, who needed to get to work the next day, had left the church already deep into the night, right after the celebration of the Holy Mass was over. They left just in time before the last Metra train departed. Many, though, remained and prayed venerating Our Blessed Mother all throughout the night. The first set of meditations was led by the parish prayer group "Effatha," with the pastor present. The night prayer vigil ended with a Holy Mass at 6:00 am, the next day.
In the morning, after the celebration of the Eucharist, the Icon was transported to the church of St. Paul to participate in the Liturgy of the Eucharist and a vigil in the intention of the protection of life. A good number of Poles also took part in these celebrations and accompanied Our Lady during the procession, which took place on the city streets of Munich leading up to the abortion clinic.
