One of the most interesting visits of the Pilgrim Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa was to visit the small rural community of Hawk Run, Pennsylvania on November 1, 2013. The population of Hawk Run is 400 people. Our Lady visited two churches that stood just about a hundred yards away from one another both named St. John the Baptist.
On Friday evening October 26, I left Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe to give a pro-life conference with the pilgrim icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. I was welcomed by Sister Rosemary Horvath, SDR – the Provincial Superior.
As I traveled through a mountain pass near Cresson, Pennsylvania on my way from State College to Latrobe on October 24, I saw the first snowflakes of the pilgrimage in North America. I arrived shortly before the noon Mass at the Chapel of Saint Vincent College, which was attended by many of the students, faculty and staff.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the From Ocean to Ocean Pilgrimage in Defense of Life has been the wonderful cooperation between Orthodox Christians and Roman Catholics. Father John Reeves, Rector of Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Church in State College, Pennsylvania heard about the From Ocean to Ocean Pilgrimage after His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America gave his blessing to the pilgrimage.
The Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr is located in an area of Cleveland, Ohio known as “Warszawa” or the “Slavic Village”. This area was settled by Polish and Czech immigrants who immigrated to Cleveland seeking work in the steel factories and woolen mills in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
