The “Life-Mobile” with the Icon took the road to Torrelavega, an industrial city to the southwest, and there drove round the streets on the way to the Discalced Carmelite Convent of San Luis y San Fernando (St. Louis and St. Ferdinand).

On its return to Santander, the “Life-Mobile”, with flags flying in spite of rain, drove around the streets so that people could see the Icon before it was taken to La Anunciación. Also popularly known among the townspeople as “La Compañía” (church of the Society of Jesus), La Anunciación is a magnificent 16th-century Renaissance church not far from the Cathedral.

The Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa arrived at Torreánaz School at about 10 p.m., and was greeted with a candle-lit procession formed by boarding pupils and the Community of the Hijas de Santa María del Corazón de Jesús (Daughters of Saint Mary of the Heart of Jesus). It was a joyous occasion. The Icon was escorted to the chapel, where members of the community took turns in an all-night vigil.

The Pro-Vida group from Santander Diocese (Cantabria region) described the scene as they reached the city of Santander: “The arrival of the Blessed Virgin’s Icon at Santander was a momentous occasion. Hundreds of people were waiting to welcome her, while the Cathedral and other church bells pealed to greet Her arrival."

The following morning, Sunday December 16, another farewell Mass was celebrated at Irun, and the Pro-Vida party from the neighbouring Diocese of Bilbao took charge of the Icon.
The Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa entered the city of Bilbao (capital of the province of Vizcaya) via the bridge opposite the Guggenheim Museum, driving through the main streets to the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, where she was greeted with a ceremonial “aurresku”, a Basque dance of welcome, performed by a “dantzari” (Basque dancer) to the strains of a “chistu” (Basque flute) and drum. In the ceremonial reception of the Icon in the church, the reasons for the pilgrimage were explained, stressing the importance of this taking place during Advent.
