The Mother of God continued Her journey to Lorca in the Murcia Region. The next group of pro-lifers took over the care of Her. The town of Lorca has around 80 thousand inhabitants. Only three years ago it was strongly affected by an earthquake. There was significant damage, many buildings suffered together with a historical castle and churches.
On Thursday, January 24, the Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa left Albacete as early as 6.00 AM with another group of pro-lifers from the Diocese of Cartagena in Murcia. This is a famous pilgrimage town, having had a privilege of perpetual indulgence for ages. In Basílica de la Santisima y Vera Cruz (the basilica of the Holy True Cross) there is a reliquary with splinters from the Cross of Jesus Christ.
Having covered 45 kilometres from Quintanar del Rey to Albacete on Tuesday evening, January 22, at 7.00PM Our Lady of Częstochowa stopped in front of the cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Albacete, the capital of a province in the region of Kastylia-La Mancha. At the entrance the Mother of God was welcomed by bishop Ciriaco Benavente Mateos, the metropolitan bishop of Cuenca Diocese. Next he led Her in a solemn procession into the church. The cathedral was full (around 800 people). The bishop presided over the Holy Rosary in the intention of the defence of life and family, and then presided over the Holy Eucharist, which was also attended by the representatives of the local authorities led by the Mayor of the town. In his homily bishop Benavente strongly stressed the necessity to take up the protection of conceived life.
In the morning on Monday, January 21, the Częstochowa Icon was carried from the convent of the Carmelite Sisters to the church of St. Stephen where a number of Holy Masses were celebrated during the day. All day people could pray before the Icon. In the evening the Holy Eucharist was presided over by bishop José María Yanguas Sanz. For the night the Icon was taken to the convent of the Servants of the Most Blessed Sacrament, where adoration lasted all night.
In the morning the Mother of God visited the House of St. Joseph where the little sisters take care of elderly people. During the visit in Cuenca the words of the Holy Father blessed John Paul II were referred to many times: "We urgently need a great prayer for life all over the world."
Already after dark but still on Sunday, January 20, at 8 PM the Black Madonna of Częstochowa arrived in the town of Cuenca in the region of Kastylia-La Mancha. This beautiful old town is located on a mountain over a crevice between two rivers Huecar and Jucar.
